Many of us drive alone despite having empty seats. Carpooling makes better use of the space in cars that are already on the road.
This offers several benefits:
- 🚗 Less congestion during rush hour
- 😊 A more social and enjoyable journey
- 🌍 Reduced emissions
During the trial period, we will pay for the first 30 km for all passengers. This means that for most people your daily commutes will effectively be free during this period. Drivers will receive a small compensation for each trip.
This new service is funded by the Troms County Authority and Tenk Tromsø and is available throughout Tromsø Municipality.

When you create a ride, you will be asked about payment. You can choose Yes or Only subsidy. This is mostly relevant to trips over 30 km. If you select Only subsidy, the ride will not cost the passenger anything. However, if you select Yes, the passenger(s) will pay for the portion of the trip that exceeds 30 km.
The money will be automatically transferred to your Nabogo account about 15 minutes after the trip ends. You must then request that the funds are transferred to your bank account. To do this, go to Menu > Payment > Pay out. The money will be transferred to your bank account on the seventh working day of the following month.
A meeting point is a predefined stop in the app. As a driver, you will drive past several meeting points where passengers can get in and out of your car. When creating a trip, you can remove the meeting points on your route where you do not wish to offer pick-ups and drop offs. The location of the meeting points are not random. We have placed them where it is easy and safe to stop, for instance in parking areas. They are typically shown with two different icons: one for regular meeting points and one for mobility hubs.
Nabogo is a mediation platform for carpooling, so you are not covered by insurance through Nabogo. It is the driver’s responsibility to have statutory liability insurance.
During the trial period, Tenk Tromsø and the Troms County Authority are covering the first 30 km of each trip. This applies throughout Tromsø Municipality, except for the area marked on the map.

You receive:
- NOK 1.50 per passenger per km (for the first 10 km)
- Then NOK 1 per km
Each trip must be at least 2 km. All payments go directly to the driver with no fees or hidden costs.
No, compensation for drivers in carpooling is not taxable because it is not considered a business activity. Read more on the website of the Norwegian Tax Administration
- Passengers must be at least 16 years old.
- Drivers must have a valid Class B driving licence.
Carpooling is not a subsidised taxi service and is not intended to compete with taxis. It is therefore important to highlight the differences:
- Carpooling is not a ride-on-demand service. Drivers only drive when they have a planned trip and take passengers who are travelling in the same direction or along the same route. Compensation is limited to four times per day.
- Taxi services are commercial and offer flexibility and on-demand transport. They operate with organised systems and professional drivers.
- Income from carpooling is only intended to cover costs and is not regarded as payment for services. Consequently, licencing requirements do not apply.
