Are you a wheelchair user or do you have reduced functional ability? If so, you will find useful information here about how you can travel on our buses.

Wheelchairs on buses

All our city buses in Harstad and Tromsø are adapted for wheelchair users. The buses are equipped with ramps that enable wheelchair users to get on and off the bus easier.
All our district and regional buses are equipped with a lift and specially adapted CE-approved straps to ensure wheelchairs are safely secured on board.

How to travel on the city buses

Please note that owing to limited space on the buses, we are unable to guarantee there will be space for you. In addition, snow and other conditions may affect boarding and accessibility.

Make a clear signal to the driver at the bus stop.
Use the wheelchair/pram button by the middle doors to notify the driver if you require assistance.
Discuss your needs with the driver.
Buses in Tromsø have validators for travelcards by the middle doors. However, in Harstad, there are only validators at the front of the bus.
Use the ramp by the middle doors.
Secure your wheelchair with the straps in the aisle or use the seat belt located behind the front row of seats.
Press the stop button marked with a wheelchair symbol when you wish to get off.

How to travel on the district and regional buses

Please let us know if you are planning to travel so we can inform the driver and increase the chance of space being available. Please call us.

The driver operates the lift.
Back your wheelchair onto the lift.
When you are onboard, place your wheelchair in the aisle.
The driver will secure the wheelchair with special straps and a seatbelt.
You should know the location of the anchor points on your wheelchair.
The driver secures the wheelchair and seatbelt.
Remember to press the designated stop button to notify the driver that you wish to get off.
Drive your wheelchair onto the lift to get off the bus.

No space guarantee

Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee space as there is limited capacity for wheelchairs, prams, cycles and other baggage on board the buses.

Are you planning to travel by district or regional bus? If you let us know in advance, we can inform the driver that you will be travelling in a wheelchair. This increases the chance of space being available and enables the driver to prepare. Please call us.

Weather and conditions

Weight and dimensions

The total weight of the wheelchair including you must not exceed 300 kg on city, district and regional buses.
The wheelchair cannot be more than 130 cm high and have a width of more than 75 cm including you.
Electric wheelchairs can have a maximum speed of 10 km/h.

If the driver is unsure whether your wheelchair meets the requirements, you may not be permitted to board the bus. We recommend bringing documentation of the dimensions and weight of your wheelchair to avoid uncertainty.
