Travel guarantee

When does the travel guarantee apply? 

The right to reimbursement applies in the event of cancellations or delays of more than 90 minutes. In addition, you can choose between: 

• a refund of your ticket within seven days, or 
• a new itinerary at the same fare and on the same contract terms  
• a new itinerary within 30 minutes where possible. If you do not receive this, you may instead choose alternative transport. Your expenses will then be reimbursed based on the current rates.

When does the travel guarantee not apply? 

The travel guarantee does not apply if

• the delay or cancellation has been announced on Svipper.no, the Svipper app or another suitable place before the departure time
• there is less than 30 minutes until the next departure  
• the delay or cancellation may be attributed to extraordinary circumstances, such as: 
  • frozen fjords
  • strong wind and currents
  • extreme weather conditions
  • accidents for which the carrier cannot be held responsible
  • strikes
  • public injunctions and prohibitions
  • natural disasters
  • pandemics

The travel guarantee does not cover consequential damages of the delay or cancellation, such as missing appointments or flights. 

Rates for reimbursement

If we are unable to offer you alternative transport, we will refund documented expenses for taxi, driving allowance or other alternative transport if the express boat is delayed by more than:

• 30 minutes on journeys under 1 hour: up to NOK 750
• 60 minutes on journeys between 1 and 3 hours: up to NOK 1,000
• 90 minutes on journeys over 3 hours: up to NOK 1,500

Driving a private car or boat will be covered in accordance with the State’s current rates for mileage allowances. The mileage allowance will only be paid to one person per trip.

Important information

Always use the current timetable and information about the public transport service. Separate timetables apply during Christmas, Easter and school holidays. We recommend using the travel planner on our website or in the Svipper app, so you receive updates about departures or service disruptions. 

How to apply for a reimbursement

Submit your completed travel guarantee form and receipts for alternative transport no later than two months after the incident occurred. We will reply as soon as possible and no later than two months after receiving your claim.
