Child seats on city buses

• You can attach your own child safety seat/booster seat by isofix on city buses in Tromsø and Harstad.
• City buses in Tromsø have one integrated, forward-facing child seat.
• Seat belts are fitted on all our buses.

Child seats on district and regional buses

All our regional and district buses have

• integrated, rear-facing child seats
• booster seats for children available
• the possibility of attaching your own child safety seat/booster seat by isofix

On sections of routes trafficked by minibuses, it’s possible to attach your own child safety seat/booster seat by seat belt. On minibuses in Central Troms, you can attach these by isofix.

This availability applies to a limited number of seats.

Prams on buses

• You may bring a pram on all our routes free subject to space on board.
• Such decisions are at the discretion of the driver or crew.
• Ensure that the pram is stationary with the brake on. Hold on to it if necessary.

Prams on city buses

All city buses in Harstad and Tromsø have entrances at ground level, which makes it easy to board with a pram.

• Use the middle doors.
• There is normally space for two prams.
• Use the wheelchair/pram button to notify the driver.
• Validators for travelcards by the middle door are only available in Tromsø.
• City buses are fitted with safety straps to secure prams.

Prams on district buses

• All district buses have stairs at the entrance.
• There is normally space for two prams by each middle door.
• District buses are fitted with safety straps to secure prams.

Prams on regional buses

• All regional buses have stairs at the entrance.
• There is no space for prams on board.
• Prams must be folded up and stored in the luggage storage area.

Prams on express boats

• You may bring a pram on all our routes free subject to space on board.
• Such decisions are at the discretion of the driver or crew.
• Ensure that the pram is stationary with the brake on. Hold on to it if necessary.

You can push the pram on board. The crew will assist during embarking and disembarking.

Prams on ferries

• You may bring a pram on all our routes free subject to space on board.
• Such decisions are at the discretion of the driver or crew.
• Ensure that the pram is stationary with the brake on. Hold on to it if necessary.

Prams to be used on board the ferry may be pushed from the ferry quay. Feel free to ask the crew for assistance. If the lounge is on a higher level than the vehicle deck, the ferry will have a lift.

Children travelling alone bus

Primary school pupils may travel without a companion.

• Pre-schoolers must always be accompanied by a companion.
• Companions must be 14 or over and accompany the child for the entire journey.
• Companions under the age of 18 can have responsibility for up to two children under the age of 10.
• Children under age six travel free.

Responsibility during the journey

Our crew cannot simply assume the parental role when your child travels alone. You need to familiarise yourself with the information, follow our rules and prepare your child for the journey.

Rules

• Children travelling alone by express boat must be at least 8 years old and bring three completed copies of the registration form. (PDF, 32 kB)
• Registration forms are required for all unaccompanied children under the age of 12.
• Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a companion aged 16 or over for the entire journey.

Who are the forms for?

• One copy should be handed to the crew on board the express boat.
• The child should retain one copy during the journey.
• The person who takes the child to the express boat should retain one copy.

Is your child ready to travel alone?

As a parent/guardian, you are the one who best knows about your child’s ability to cope with unexpected events. As such, the child’s age alone is not always sufficient to determine whether the child is suited to travel alone or supervise another child during the journey.

A safe journey

It’s a good idea to accompany your child on the same route before he/she travels alone. This way you can help ensure that your child feels safe and secure and is aware that he/she can ask the crew for help if necessary.

When your child travels alone, you must ensure he/she can find their way and get off at the correct stop or quay.

Our guidelines

• The child must be seated in the main lounge near the kiosk, so the crew can keep an eye on him/her during the journey.
• The parent/guardian must be available by phone until the journey has been completed and the child has been picked up at the place of arrival.
• If the child is continuing their journey on another means of transport, he/she must arrange this himself/herself. 
• Children travelling alone must pay the ordinary child’s fare.
• The captain reserves the right to reject a request for a child to travel alone if this cannot be justified owing to the weather or other conditions.
